Huntingdon each-way racing tip: Tip Top Tonto looking to defy outsider odds

Huntingdon-Hurdle

There’s a competitive little card at Huntingdon on Sunday, and a few of Tipstrr’s top pundits have their collective expert eye on the outsider of seven runners in the last race of the afternoon.

16:00 Huntingdon: Price Boosts on Football at Rhino.Bet Handicap Hurdle (2 miles 3 furlongs 137 yards)

Five of the seven runners are separated by less than two betting points at the top of the market, with Jack Sprat just about carrying the favourite mantle, but that could easily change by the time they line up.

Mark Walford’s Pileup was putting in some decent runs to earn a couple of frame finishes earlier in the year, and he could well have a say under Jamie Hamilton if none the worse for his four-month lay-off.

Another looking to hit the ground running after an extended break is eight-year-old Nasee, who will be looking to rekindle the form that saw him come second of 16 and third of 25 in a couple of big-field handicaps at Punchestown in early summer. He could be watching in the betting with Harry Cobden in the pilot seat.

Indeed, an argument could be made for all seven starters here, which makes the solitary outsider Tip Top Tonto look all the more intriguing, especially with some major bookmakers paying out on an extra third place.

Although seven years old, Dr Richard Newland’s gelding is lightly raced with only ten outings under his belt, and looked a promising sort when landing back-to-back frame finishes over two-mile trips in spring last year.

Newland’s has been producing horses in good shape recently, with four winners and five runners-up from his last 19 efforts, while jockey Sam Twiston-Davies arrives fresh from a win and a frame finish from his only two rides at Ascot on Saturday.

Tip Top Tonto looked out of sorts when pulling up at Cartmel last time out, but he could be ready to spring a surprise on his return from a 69-day break, and could be worth a cautious each-way punt in a race of this nature.

Suggested bet: Tip Top Tonto each-way in the 16:00: at Huntingdon
