Huntingdon best bet (2010): Lighthouse Mill to hit the good ground running on season return

Our colleagues down the corridor in the Tipstrr office have been studying their data to provide us with their most widely-backed selection on Huntingdon’s Tuesday evening card.

20:10 Huntingdon:  Don’t Retire Without My Pension Expert Handicap Hurdle  (2 miles 3½ furlongs)

Bread And Butter appears to be the one to beat if able to back up April’s reappearance at Taunton, where he emerged from a four-month lay-off to finish third of nine. He turns up here with high hopes of going better off the same mark, especially with his claimer removing a further seven pounds off his back.

The favourite might hold all the aces but he doesn’t hold much appeal at such tight odds, which do at least have the knock-on effect of enhancing the each-way value of his nine rivals.

Alioski and Miss Applejack have both received favourable support from Tipstrr’s each-way specialists, but receiving their final nod of approval is Lighthouse Mill, who enjoyed a stellar spring in 2023, and will be looking to hit the ground running to replicate that form on his season reappearance following an extended eight-month break.

This time last year the David Dennis-trained gelding was in the midst of a purple patch that produced impressive figures of 232122 that peaked with a 7½-furlong victory over 22 furlongs of good ground at Stratford last June.

His campaign petered out when the ground became unsuitably soft in late summer, so this season debut on improving ground should suit, and with jockey Tom Bellamy showing good early-season form (four wins and 12 places from 36 rides), Lighthouse Mill could well hit Huntingdon’s good ground running on Tuesday evening.

Suggested best bet: Lighthouse Mill each-way in the 20:10 at Huntingdon
