The most attractive bets at the early prices were the four-year-old at the top of the handicap, Sharp Distinction, and one of the previous 16f Polytrack winners, C’Mon Kenny, who has withdrawn.

A wind operation in September appears to have done the trick for Sharp Distinction because the two runs he has had since the procedure have produced the two best performances of his 17-race career to date.

In the first of them, an eight-runner handicap over 13f at this venue a month after his operation, the four-year-old easily beat the highly progressive Aqwaam by two lengths with his turn of foot down the home straight proving decisive.

There was a further 2.75 lengths back to the rest of that 0-76 field, so the form looks strong for the grade.

Less than two weeks later, the front pair in that handicap clashed again at Chelmsford. Sharp Distinction was 5lbs higher for that second clash whilst Aqwaam ran off an unchanged mark.

Again, the front pair pulled well clear of the rest in a reverse result, and this time there was 4.5l back to the third-placed finisher.

Sharp Distinction is only a pound higher than when beaten by Aqwaam at Chelmsford last time so he can remain in this grade whilst his rival has been moved into Class 4.

Sharp Distinction sneaks into this contest on the ceiling mark and he can take advantage of this opportunity before also being forced up into a higher grade.

This return to two miles is no problem at all because he stays this trip strongly, with his turn of foot being a major asset.
