Hereford racing tips (1540): Fenney Brook and Citizen Jane carry each-way hopes in wide-open handicap

With four places widely available, Tipstrr’s each-way specialists are out in force as they look for the best value ahead of this mares’ handicap hurdle, sponsored by Planet Sport Bet.

The early market support for Only Fools appears to be justified if David Pipe’s five-year-old can replicate the form that has landed two wins in her last four outings, including an impressive 11-length success in heavy conditions at Fontwell nine days ago.

She has to be respected again here, although the quick turnaround and the seven-pound penalty levels the playing field for the likes of closest market challengers After Many Days and Damask, both of whom finished close-up thirds on their most recent appearances.

However, arguably better value might be lurking a little lower in the betting in the shape of Fenney Brook, who was offloaded cheaply by Henry Daly’s yard last summer, but made a quick statement for new trainer Katy Price, winning on her stable debut over this course and distance in October.

Suggested best bet: Fenney Brook each-way in the 15:40 at Hereford

A less eye-catching second outing at Ludlow can be forgiven in light of her third place, again over this very trip, when last seen in November, since when she has enjoyed a four-month winter break.

The eight-year-old has won twice before after extended breaks, including that yard debut success, so she could well hit the ground running again when fresh here, especially now reunited with in-form jockey Gavin Sheehan, who was also on board for that October victory.

Of those carrying potentially more lucrative double-digit odds, there’s been a buzz within the Tipstrr camp in favour of Citizen Jane, who was entitled to need her Taunton return to blow away some cobwebs in February, following six months off.

She had no chance in a much higher graded 0-120 race over this course and distance last month, and from 16lb wrong at the weights it came as no surprise to see her appear out of her depth.

Now back in the right class, this five-year-old maiden looks very fairly handicapped on her form of last summer, and she looks to be a very viable each-way alternative to the favourite.

In the saddle is Sean Bowen, who has a great record for Ryan Potter, riding five of the yard’s 12 winners this season, and this could represent a good opportunity for him to close the gap on Planet Sport Bet racing ambassador Harry Cobden in the race for the champion jockey crown.
