Hereford each-way racing tip: Silver Atom set to shine in competitive opener

Hereford goes ahead
Planet Sport Bet are at the races again, this time at Hereford where they are sponsoring the entire card, kicking off with what looks like a competitive handicap hurdle to get the party started.

Libor Lad looks likely to be sent off as the short-priced favourite, which is hardly surprising as he is the only last-time-out winner in the 12-strong field, having backed up a couple of close-up seconds with a cosy win in heavy going at Uttoxeter in late November.

He is penalised six pounds for that success, which could bring hope to Joe Tizzard’s Talimar Pearl, who is looking for an overdue visit to the winner’s circle after finishing runner-up on each of his last three starts, the latest of which came on a promising season debut at Fontwell three weeks ago.
With four places widely available each-way options abound, with Leland worthy of consideration if top weight does not prove too heavy a burden, while Ede’iffs Rock could well out-run her double-digit price after placing on all of her last five starts.

The buzz in the Tipstrr camp, however, is that the bottom-weighted Silver Atom offers a more realistic winning chance if able to build on a promising return to hurdles last time out five weeks ago.
This six-year-old grey showed little as a maiden hurdler for Ben Pauling before a mid-summer move to the yard of Archie Watson, who promptly decided to sharpen his gelding up on the Flat, a shrewd move that brought an early success when beating 11 rivals over a mile and a half at Bath in September.
Silver Atom was returned to hurdling over this course and distance in November, and although he was too far back to threaten the eventual winner, the way he kept on to finish a game third, just a length and a half behind the highly-rated Man Of The Sea, was cause for hope of better things to come.
It’s also worth noting that over the last five seasons Watson has only ever sent eight runners to Hereford, landing four winners for a tasty 50 percent win rate, plus a further couple of each-way places.
- Suggested best bet: Silver Atom each-way in the 12:58 at Hereford
