Haydock each-way racing tip (1435): Jason The Militant poised to cause an upset at a tasty price

With three each-way places widely available for this seven-runner hurdle, Tipstrr each-way specialist Richard Hutchinson thinks the outsider could be good value to muscle his way into the frame.

14:35 Haydock: Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Handicap Hurdle (2 miles 3 furlongs)

Jason The Militant has been a classy individual in the past, winning a Grade 2 over hurdles and placing in Grade 1's, and has been rated as high as an Irish 158

The gelding becomes a 10-year-old on New Year’s Day and has been in my tracker ever since he switched from his Irish yard to UK-based Philip Kirby in January 2023.

I was expecting to see his mark of 154 drop before he was lined up for a handicap win, and now we fast forward almost a year and he is now down to 132 where he looks dangerously handicapped.

That mark drops to a net 127 thanks to the useful five-pound allowance of Joe Williamson, who teamed up with Kirby to land an 11/2 winner at this venue a week ago, his second winner in just six rides at Haydock.

I also like that cheekpieces are applied for the first time, but the key to Jason the Militant is the going as he loves deep winter ground, so today's heavy Haydock conditions should be just about perfect for him.

He might need a couple of the market leaders to falter if he’s to win this, but with three places readily available in this seven-runner race his double-digit price looks decent, so I’m happy to recommend an each-way play
