Harry Cobden’s Planet Sport bet blog: I’d like to be within 20 of Sean Bowen by 2024

Planet Sport Bet ambassador Harry Cobden looks back at Stay Away Fay's recent performance and his chances of winning the jockeys’ title.

Brown Advisory looks Stay Away Fay’s Gold Cup

I was very pleased with Stay Away Fay at Sandown. I thought he jumped really well the whole way and while I didn’t really want to make the running, no-one else wanted to go on and I know he stays well.

I tried to go as even as I could and did turn into a bit of a sprint from three out. He winged the last two fences and put the race to bed well in the end, so I couldn’t have been much happier with the performance.

It rode like a good race and the second horse is certainly a good horse in his own right as well.

A few pundits have said that he’s a stayer and that he’d win the National Hunt Chase, but I’ll certainly be pushing for the Brown Advisory as he looks to have a great profile for it. I’m sure that will be his Gold Cup, if you like, for this season, and he looks to have a massive chance in it.

Jockeys’ title race

I genuinely believe I’ve got a good chance of winning the jockeys’ title. I’m only 29 behind Sean Bowen at the moment and I feel like I’m riding really well. Sean certainly isn’t going to stop riding winners, but I’ve just got to keep pegging him back week-by-week.

If I could be within 20 of him come the New Year, that would be ideal, and then hopefully from then onwards it wouldn’t be such an impossible task. My agent is pushing hard to get me on as many as possible, and I’ve got lots of good rides to look forward to for the remainder of the month, so it’s something I’m really focussing on.

Winning the title is different because it means you can’t really afford yourself a break over the summer. Paul [Nicholls] has over 200 horses in his yard and it doesn’t feel right for me to not be helping out when there is so much that is needed, so it’s a big commitment. It’s great the horses are running well which is always good ahead of one of the busiest times of the year.

It’s something that every jockey wants on their CV and it would be very special to win it.
