The warm favourite Mumbles has been improving steadily this term, finally getting off the mark at the seventh attempt at Chepstow eight days ago, just a couple of months after coming close over a longer trip at this venue in November.
Even with the three-pound claim of Conor Ring lessening the load slightly in the saddle, his subsequent penalty and the quick turnaround must raise a question mark over his short odds, with the bookies offering little better than even money.

The benefit of the market leader’s short price, of course, is that it enhances the each-way value of all of his dozen rivals, with even second-favourite Daany likely to return a better profit just by occupying one of the three minor places.
Anyone looking to throw caution to the wind might consider a silly quid each-way at 150/1 on Howdy Partner, who is something of an unknown quantity after clearly needing the run when returning from a 13-month break to come ninth of 13 at Leicester three weeks ago.
Book Of Verse has also attracted some attention within the Tipstrr camp, but our final nod goes to Nigel Hawke’s mare My Granny Lily, who returns from a two-month break since falling at the third fence last time out at Ludlow in early December.
That was the six-year-old’s first attempt over fences, and she had been a well-backed 11/2 to make a successful switch from hurdles, over which she has enjoyed five straight frame finishes since being introduced to handicaps.
She now remains in the capable hands of David Noonan as she reverts to hurdling, and she is definitely more than a forlorn each-way hope as she returns fresh from a winter break to tackle her preferred smaller obstacles over her optimum trip.
