Exeter racing tip (1438): Harry Cobden can stay red hot with Asian Spice

Exeter offers a decent card for a chilly Sunday afternoon in November, and this two-mile hurdle gives in-form Harry Cobden a great chance to build on his spectacular four-timer at Ascot on Saturday.

Working up from the bottom of the betting, it’s easy to discount the seven runners carry double-digit odds, although Universal Secret might outrun his price if he can rekindle the form that landed back-to-back successes at Wincanton earlier in the year.

Of the five market leaders, narrow early favourite Ito Ditto should be capable of building on his season debut success at Chepstow last month, while 2021 four-time winner Orchard Grove could be worth watching on his reappearance after a 16-month break.

Most eye-catching of all, however, is Jimmy Frost’s Asian Spice, who won impressively under the trainer’s daughter, Bryony, as a 28/1 shot over this course-and distance 16 days ago, and should be able to cope with her subsequent six-pound hike.

The way she moved round the entire field to clinch that half-length victory in the closing strides suggests that the handicapper has not fully caught up with her capabilities just yet, and she also has the benefit of the in-form Harry Cobden in the saddle.

Recently signed as Planet Sport Bet’s racing ambassador, Cobden landed a spectacular 240/1 four-timer for Paul Nicholls at Ascot on Saturday, and while he is unlikely to score another 100 per cent record with his five rides at Exeter, Asian Spice certainly represents one of his better chances.
