Exeter racing tip: Storminhome can live up to name on second attempt over fences

There’s plenty of capable performers contesting this competitive-looking handicap over a testing three miles, and the aptly-named Storminhome might just give the favourite plenty to think about.

15:30 Exeter: General Peters Novices’ Limited handicap Chase (3 miles 54 yards)

Paul Nicholls and Planet Sport Bet ambassador Harry Cobden are bang in form after teaming up to guide both Stage Star and Ginny’s Destiny into Cheltenham’s winners’ enclosure over the weekend.

Their ride here, Makinyourmindup looks to be the justifiable favourite on his chasing debut after impressing over smaller obstacles in his first full season, although there are plenty of capable contenders looking to take him on, with Moon Hunter likely to improve on a rusty-looking chasing debut at Cheltenham in October.

Of those in the lower half of the betting, Top Of The Bill is looking to be just that, and he is another who should be better off for an early-season pipe-opener, having finished sixth of 11 on his first effort over fences at Chepstow three weeks ago.

However, attracting plenty of support, both in the Tipstrr camp and in the betting market, is the Ben Pauling-trained six-year-old Storminhome, who tackles fences for the second time after stringing some impressive results together (23123) in a promising short hurdling career.

Connections clearly have him pegged as a potential chaser, and he did nothing to dampen those hopes on his first effort over fences three weeks ago at Huntingdon, where he shaped up well to the new challenge.

After jumping nicely throughout, he led over the last and was only caught by the eventual winner in the final stages, with his other seven rivals strung out a long way behind.

Both horse and returning jockey Kielan Woods will have learned plenty from that chasing debut, and they certainly showed enough promise to suggest another bold bid could be on the cards here.

Suggested bet: Storminhome each-way in the 15:30 at Exeter
