Exeter each-way tip: Galice Macalo lined up for bold bid on chasing return

Our friends at Tipstrr guided us towards a tidy 11/2 winner Malina Girl at Cheltenham on Sunday, so we’re looking for more of the same as we start the new week at Monday’s Exeter meeting.

15:00 Exeter: Exeter Mares’ Novices’ Chase (2 miles 1½ furlongs)

A quick glance at the market and the form book makes it difficult to see too far beyond the market leaders, with early favourite Lady Adare having made a smooth transition to fences, winning on chasing debut at Worcester last month, and looking at home in Grade 2 company when runner-up at Wincanton nine days ago.

She should go well under Jonathan Burke, and they could well have the equally well-fancied Law Ella for company after this capable six-year-old also enjoyed a success chasing debut when landing a 13-runner novice with six lengths in hand at Thurles a month ago.

Nicky Henderson’s young filly Arclight could benefit from her eight-pound allowance, while the Skeltons’ Nurse Susan also hold realist claims, albeit at prices that fall a little short of mouthwatering, which leaves the remaining five contenders all carrying double-digit prices in their bid to gatecrash the market leaders’ party.

There’s a smattering of support among Tipstrr’s each-way specialists that Endless Escape might be worth watching on her chasing debut, but most have gravitated towards the Jane Williams-trained seven-year-old, Galice Macalo.

An accomplished hurdler, she won three times over smaller obstacles in seasons gone by, and looked right at home when resuming that code at the beginning of this year, romping home by ten lengths in a 10-runner handicap at Chepstow.

An earlier stint over fences proved fruitless in terms of victories, but she did show herself to be an assured jumper of larger obstacles, and her progress was reinforced when she returned to chasing at Worcester last time out in October.

Returning from a 175-day break that gave her the chance to have a wind operation, she shaped up encouragingly over a longer two-and-a-half-mile trip, finishing third of seven but only a potentially retrievable three lengths behind the re-oppoing favourite here, Lady Adare.

  • Suggested bet: Galice Macalo each-way in the 15:00 at Exeter
