Dundalk evening racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, April 13

All eyes will be on Aintree for the Grand National on Saturday but, no sooner than that famous race finishes on Merseyside then the only Irish action of the day will begin at Dundalk on April 13.

It's a rare Saturday evening offering on the golden sands of the Co Louth venue, where they race from 16:20 through until 19:50 and Enda McElhinney has tips for all eight races for Planet Sport readers.

Don't forget to check out the full racecard, results and live odds in Planet Sport's racing live centre.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

(Please be aware selections could become non-runners after article's first publication)

16:20 (Dundalk) Usdi Atohi

Little in the way of form for this maiden but some handsome price tags associated with the likes of California Dreamer, Cradle Of Love and Usdi Atohi. The last-named is a Ten Sovereigns filly and a sister to a 2YO winner over this minimum trip.

Donnacha O'Brien's charge may be best placed on this occasion in the hands of Gavin Ryan.

16:50 (Dundalk) Mary Shoelaces

Recent course winners Jered Maddox and Pro Bono Alexander are contenders again but Mary Shoelaces is given another chance to shine.

A wide draw here last time over 6f was no help and the US Navy Flag filly has hinted she can win a race like this.

The handicapper has dropped her a further 2lb and she gets an in-form 5lb claimer on board to further aid the case. She may not get a better opening.

17:20 (Dundalk) Heart Of Darkness

Mehmas filly Heart Of Darkness cost 50,000 gns as a yearling and has plenty winners in the family.

Her debut effort at Cork a fortnight ago was promising, finishing fourth of 18 over 5f on heavy ground and offering plenty to work on for Billy Lee and Paddy Twomey now that she moves to the all-weather tackling an extra furlong.

17:50 (Dundalk) Mayfair

The third of five maidens on the card. Mayfair was nabbed on the line in a Curragh maiden (7f, heavy) last month after a 230-day absence and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Justify colt is superbly-bred and more than likely good enough to be opening his account at the third time of asking now switched to the Polytrack with Ryan Moore for company.

18:20 (Dundalk) Irish Rumour

Division one of this mile handicap brings together a fairly motley crew and it would be tough to put maximum faith in many of them.

Irish Rumour has made the frame four times in six all-weather starts, including a trio of runner-up finishes here over 6f/7f.

She remains on a fair mark now back in a handicap, with Adam Caffrey taking off 5lb, and should give a good account upped to this distance for the first time on the Polytrack.

18:50 (Dundalk) Bride Tree

December's course and distance winner Bride Tree may follow up off the back of a break.

The Garswood filly was only having her second start on the synthetic surface that evening and having travelled smoothly, put the race away quite stylishly.

She is not yet exposed at this trip and should be winning more races around here before long.

19:20 (Dundalk) Evening Blossom

Ballydoyle newcomer Opaque warrants a close look in the betting but Evening Blossom ran well on debut at the Curragh (7f, soft) in her one outing as a juvenile, finishing third in a race that has thrown up a host of subsequent winners.

The daughter of Australia should progress from that now and Joseph O'Brien's challenger is bred to do better at this distance.

19:50 (Dundalk) London City

Those with experience appear the way to go. Huxley has knocked on the door twice around here including at this trip, but London City might be the one.

Ryan Moore rides the Justify colt, and while he didn't meet expectations in two runs as a juvenile, he could soon leave that behind now after a winter to mature at Ballydoyle.
