Curragh Irish Guineas Festival tips: Best bets for day 2 on Saturday, May 25

A massive sporting Saturday includes day two of the Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival from the Curragh on May 25.

Ireland's Flat HQ has another eight-race offering, from 13:20-17:25, with the main dish being the Irish 2000 Guineas itself at 15:40.

Enda McElhinney is on hand once more to try and point Planet Sport readers in the direction of some all-important winners.

Don't forget to check out the full racecard, results and live odds in Planet Sport's racing live centre.

Good luck and please gamble responsibly.

(Please be aware selections could become non-runners after article's first publication)

Saturday's Curragh selections in full:

13:20 (Curragh) Hill Road

13:55 (Curragh) Camille Pissarro

14:30 (Curragh) Mitbaahy

15:05 (Curragh) La Isla Mujeres

15:40 (Curragh) Rosallion

16:15 (Curragh) Deakin

16:50 (Curragh) Ragga Bomb

17:25 (Curragh) Trethorn

13:20 (Curragh) Hill Road

A 14-runner maiden to get the afternoon underway and it's a tough puzzle, given Aidan O'Brien saddles three regally-bred newcomers.

All of Henri Matisse, Monumental and Gun Carriage are respected for Ballydoyle, with Ryan Moore on board the first-named, but Adrian Murray showed his adeptness with a smart horse last season and Amo Racing newcomer Hill Road, a $350,000 yearling, could upset the O'Brien posse.

Michael O'Callaghan's Red Evolution is another notable in what looks a hot contest.

13:55 (Curragh) Camille Pissarro

O'Brien and Moore combine with comfortable Navan maiden winner Camille Pissarro in the Group 3 GAIN Marble Hill Stakes and the Wootton Bassett colt should take some pegging back.

He did things nicely in last month's opening gambit, has plenty scope for better and can account for previous winners Arizona Blaze and Midnight Stroke.

14:30 (Curragh) Mitbaahy

Art Power has always relished his visits to Ireland and four of his nine career wins have come at this venue over 5f/6f.

He should be primed to defend this crown after running a good race at York recently, a better one than he did before winning this 12 months ago.

Mitbaahy has perhaps been left with just too much to do in a pair of Newmarket Group 3s this term but there's no doubt a big effort is perhaps bubbling under the surface for the Profitable colt if Jamie Spencer can get things to fall just right.

He's an each-way player at a fair price.

15:05 (Curragh) La Isla Mujeres

La Isla Mujeres was a two-time scorer in Britain last season for Ralph Beckett and showed some promise in this grade at Yarmouth on final start.

The filly changed hands for 330,000 gns at the sales in December and is now sporting the famous Moyglare silks on her first outing for Paddy Twomey.

She is the type to do better as a 4YO and this step up in trip could be a major plus for Billy Lee's mount.

15:40 (Curragh) Rosallion

Two of the last five Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas winners have been trained in Britain and Rosallion could be another conquering raider.

He was second-best behind Notable Speech in the Newmarket version three weeks ago, clear of stablemate Haatem (also runs here) and sets the standard on that effort, with the promise of more to come.

Ballydoyle trio River Tiber, Mountain Bear and Unquestionable will serve it up to him, though Aidan O'Brien 'only' has two wins in this contest since Gleneagles in 2015.

16:15 (Curragh) Deakin

French import Titanium is one to note, he won his last two on the continent, while recent Leopardstown scorer Saturn is a player for Jessica Harrington.

Deakin was progressive in handicaps in the autumn for Joseph O'Brien, notching wins at Roscommon and Thurles before he signed off for the winter, and the gelded son of Australia could still have plenty mileage in him as a four-year-old. He can score under Dylan McMonagle.

16:50 (Curragh) Ragga Bomb

Last month's Cork maiden winner Grand City Hall should have something to offer from an opening mark of 83, but Ragga Bomb is a thrice-raced maiden winner for Ger Lyons and is set to improve this season.

He won at Cork in September over 6f on fast ground and would have learned plenty from contesting a Dundalk Listed race afterwards. Colin Keane could make it 2-2 on his back now.

17:25 (Curragh) Trethorn

Those that have run don't set a high bar for this closing maiden, with Ozark Daze the best of them but exposed after four attempts.

Johnny Murtagh saddles Aga Khan newcomers Viyanni and Kalkanli, while Aidan O'Brien's Galileo colt Jan Brueghel is an obvious type on paper.

Jessica Harrington's team are flying and her Dubawi colt Trethorn is taken for a winning bow.
