Curragh best bets: Black Hawk Eagle poised to swoop to victory under Oisin Murphy

There’s plenty of value on show in this 21-runner handicap, and the consensus among Tipstrr’s pundits points to a couple of popular selections at both ends of the betting market.

Four horses are jostling for position at the top of the betting, and while Newfoundland, Star Kissed and The Very Man all merit serious consideration, it is Noel Meade's five-year-old gelding Black Hawk Eagle who looks the most appealing of the market leaders.

He eased to a comfortable Flat season debut success in a low-grade race at Navan at the end of March, while also keeping up his race fitness with occasional hurdle races, winning a novice event at Roscommon in September.

His most recent hurdling outings probably came too soon after that Navan success, since when he has had a 48-day rest.

His yard is in decent form, enjoying a tasty three-timer at Roscommon last Monday, and the booking of Oisin Murphy appears to suggest significant intent to go for this one.

With five each-way places readily available (as many as six in places), there is clear each-way value to be found, and a plethora of Tipstrr punters have gravitated towards Ted Hastings.
Any horse trained by Gordon Elliott should be taken seriously, and the fact that this seven-year-old gelding is Elliott's only representative at the Curragh appears particularly significant, especially for a Flat race.

A winner of four of his six hurdle outings, Ted Hastings also won on his Flat debut at Bellewstown in September, and although failing to feature at Killarney 12 days ago, he has to enter each-way calculations here on his handicap debut under Chris Hayes.
