Cheltenham racing tip: Malina Girl can make up tasty 1-2 with market leader

The bookies have this set up as a two-horse race between the strongly-fancied market principals, but there’s a whisper in the Tipstrr camp that a challenge will come from lower down the betting.

14:20  Jewson Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (3 miles 3½ furlongs)

Guetapan Collonges looks capable of building on his tidy win on season debut at Carlisle a month ago, and might just have the edge on the equally well-fancied City Chief, who emerges from a seven-month break after making an seamless transition to larger obstacles a year ago, winning two of his last three outings.

Planet Sport Bet: Bet £20+ cash on any runner in the race and if City Chief finishes in the first 3 places, get a £5 Free Bet!

Arguments can be made for several others to at least make the frame, especially with as many as five places up for grabs, with Bangers And Cash, Rose Of Arcadia and Wayfinder all capable of outperforming their current odds.

However, it is Gavin Cromwell’s six-year-old mare Malina Girl who has caught the discerning eye of racing pundit Richard Hutchinson, who provides the analysis below on the Tipstrr website.

Suggested bet: Malina Girl each-way in the 14:20 at Cheltenham

The popular Irish trainer has his string in excellent form, and he mopped up with his runners at the Cheltenham October meeting.

He sends over Malina Girl who is unexposed and progressive after stepping up in trip for the first time to win the Ulster National over three and a half miles in April off an Irish mark of 129.

She flopped on her next run in the Scottish National, but that may have come too soon after her Ulster National outing, and she lines up here with a recent hurdle prep run under her belt, so she should be cherry ripe for this assignment.

Her double-digit price looks reasonable value to be well worth an each way punt, while the favourite, Guetapan Collonges, looks like a real stayer to follow, so I’m also recommending an each-way reverse forecast, which, at the time of writing, should pay around 40/1.

Bonus tip: Malina Girl and Guetapan Collonges reverse forecast in the 14:20 at Cheltenham
