Chelmsford racing top tip (2000): Handy winner Ultramarine has more to give from current mark

Thursday evening's meeting at Chelmsford isn’t the most glamorous but the Class 4 at 20:00 seems the pick of the bunch with Ultramarine backed to go well.

David Evans’ course, distance winner Ultramarine spearheads the early market for Chelmsford as his good form in 2023 has spilled over into 2024.

The five-year-old has won three of four starts and made fairly light work of a five-runner race at Kempton on the all-weather last time out.

Love De Vega also put forth a solid effort at Kempton last time out, finishing second to a deserved winner and faring the best of those held up.

He recorded back-to-back wins on turf in August but has hit the post in consecutive appearances on the AW, so trainer Charlie Johnston will be keen to bag a first win.

It’s also worth noting that blindly backing jockey Kevin Stott across 80 runs at this course would have resulted in +8.52 units profit.

Remarkable Force completes the trio of horses who gave a good account of themselves last time out as he finished second in a 13-runner race here at Chelmsford.

He possibly went a bit early in that race and it’ll be interesting to see how he performs for new trainer Brian Toomey.

Riot commands respect as a three-time course and distance winner. The seven-year-old won here as recently as December and will don cheekpieces and a tongue strap.

That’s usually the case and while it may be a coincidence, he’s become a more consistent presence in the frame, recording five top-three finishes in six races.

Revolutionise is without a win since 2021 but this is a course and distance winner who usually gives a respectable effort, but he’s not for us in this field.

Razzam and See You Boy make up the remainder of the field. The former isn’t tipped to challenge and the latter has the worst draw.

The bookies favourite would seem to be justified. He looked like he had plenty left in the tank when romping to victory last time out.

He goes from the same mark here so there’s no reason he can’t repeat that performance.

Suggested bet: Back Ultramarine to win the 20:00 at Kempton
