Chelmsford racing tip: Excel Power primed to retain one-mile prize

Chelmsford City racecourse
Racing pundit Steve Jones, who runs his CD Systems service on Tipstrr, landed a tasty 7/1 winner on Wednesday and is looking for more of the same with his Daily Bargain at Chelmsford.
20:00 Chelmsford City Racecourse Membership Handicap (1 mile)
Excel Power won this race by an easy 2.5 lengths last year after tracking the leader before asserting in the home straight and going clear.
That success was off a rating of 97 and he competes off exactly the same mark again today, the lowest since that victory.
His draw in stall 3 looks ideal for his preferred prominent racing style and he is handicapped to strike again after finishing third of nine in another Class 2 handicap over this course and distance on his penultimate outing in November.
He's now two pounds lower following that best run of the year so far, and his last five wins all came in one-mile handicaps, while two of his last three all-weather successes came over this very trip.
He also won a Class 2 handicap on the Lingfield Polytrack less than a month before landing this prize and he is hitting form at precisely the same time again this term.
Now six pounds lower than he was in the summer, and a close second in a mile handicap off 102 at Wolverhampton in this month last year, he looks primed to retain this prize round a circuit he loves.
Suggested bet: Excel Power in the 20:00 at Chelmsford

Of the others, Helm Rock also has a very handy draw in stall 4 and he is another one-mile specialist whose last win came over this trip in a valuable Class 2 handicap (the London Mile Final) on the Kempton Polytrack in September, when he beat 13 rivals with a length to spare, and he is a major player here off just four pounds higher.
This will be his first all-weather run since then and he is again partnered by his winning rider, Richard Kingscote.
The five-year-old had the re-opposing Fantastic Fox four places behind him in that big final and is two pounds better off with that shorter priced rival today, so he looks decent value.
Next best bet: Helm Rock in the 20:00 at Chelmsford
