Chelmsford best bet: Course-distance winner Boasty lining up to defy outsider odds

Our colleagues at Tipstrr have run their numbers over Thursday evening’s Chelmsford card, and have used their data to provide us with their most popular tip from the very last race of the night.

21:00 Chelmsford: Best Odds Guaranteed at bet365 Handicap (1 mile 2 furlongs)

Cavalluccio appears to be the justifiable early favourite after making the first three in all but one of his eight outings since October, including two course-and-distance successes here.

He is winless in three since that latter of those wins, however, and his third-placed finish at Kempton a fortnight ago will offer some home his his closest market rivals, Isle Of Sark (five frame finishes since March) and Obsidian Knight, who looks well-treated to hit the ground running on his season debut.

The buzz in the Tipstrr camp, however, has been caused by bottom-weight Boasty, who has proven to know his way to Chelmsford’s winning circle in the past, with two of his three course-distance wins coming back-to-back this time last year.

Although unable to maintain that form throughout the rest of 2023, Ivan Furtado’s seven-year-old is only two outings on from his last win at Wolverhampton in March, and he could well be set to punch above his dropping mark here.

Suggested best bet: Boasty in the 21:00 at Chelmsford

Each of Boasty’s last six outings have seen him ridden by a different jockey, but the return of usual rider Marco Ghiani should help bring the best out of him.

This higher graded company suggests he will have to up his game, but it’s worth noting that his trainer is profitable against the bookies so far this term, and the same applies to his five-year record at this track, so it won’t be a major surprise to see Boasty in the mix at a decent price.
