The winner is more likely to come from the four market leaders that are currently headed by the Barron yard’s Homer Stokes, who is looking to build on a couple of promising outings this month after seeing his mark drop to a career low.

Coloane and Motawaazy are fractionally behind the favourite in terms of betting points and should be there or thereabouts at the line, but carrying marginal better value, Ruth Carr’s Rockin Rosa is our pick of this very capable bunch.

A busy three-year-old campaign brought several near misses for this lively filly, who was finally rewarded with a maiden success over this distance on Newcastle’s all-weather track in August.

She bounced back from her five-month winter break with a close-up third of ten at Southwell in March, and she has wasted no time in converting that promise to turf, finishing third of 13 on her season turf debut over this very course and distance at the beginning of the month.

Rockin Rosa was slowly away that day, so if Tom Eaves can bring a more convincing break from the stalls, then she could well make her presence known earlier in proceedings to take advantage of her lowest mark since that winning performance nine months ago.
