Catterick racing tip (1500): Beat The Edge strongly fancied to deliver the goods

Our friends at Tipstrr have run their numbers over the penultimate race on Catterick’s card to bring us their most popular selection from what should be a competitive chase over just shy of two miles.

15:00 Catterick: Every Race Live on Racing TV Handicap Chase (1 mile 7 furlongs 145 yards)

Each-way bettors might be drawn to the value offered by the Brooke yard’s Rocco Storm, who won three times over fences last season and was successful again on his penultimate outing at Sedgefield, so could well relish this return to larger obstacles after a less successful foray over hurdles last time out.

A similar argument could be made for Budarri if the 10-year-old can shake off a couple of disappointing recent runs that undid much of the promise shown when landing a couple of wins and a few near misses last winter and during the summer.

However, given the strength of the field, it’s hard to see the winner coming from anywhere but the four market principals, with both Trapista and Ribeye expected to give a good account of themselves, especially the latter, who returns to the track after an impressive spring campaign that brought two wins and three third places in his last five outings.

Fanfare Du Seuil looks likely to be sent off as favourite after coming close to ending a five-year barren spell when second at Doncaster a month ago after a full one year break.

He is likely to be challenged most closely by Tim Easterby’s Beat The Edge, although the six-year-old gelding is prone to erratic behaviour that has seen winning positions slip away in the closing stages.

Jamie Hamilton was on board for his solitary win at Wetherby in March, so he should be familiar with his temperamental ways, and if he can maintain his ride’s focus, then he certainly has the beating of this field on racing ability alone.

  • Suggested bet: Beat The Edge in the 15:00 at Catterick
