Ayr best-bet: Stamina test to suit Ramiro down to the ground

Ayr racecourse
After coming within the width of a horse’s nostril of landing us a 9/1 winner on Wednesday, racing pundit Steve Jones has turned his eye for a Daily Bargain to Thursday’s Flat meeting at Ayr.
15:55 Ayr: Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap (1 mile)
A recent win over seven furlongs at Chester extended the unbeaten record of Ramiro on heavy ground to 3/3, but he is just as efficient over six furlongs provided there is cut in the ground.
He demonstrated this by landing a higher-graded Class 3 handicap on good-soft ground on this track in July, beating15 rivals in a 0-89 contest that he would have won more easily but for having to wait for a clear run approaching the furlong pole.
The way he travelled throughout that race was impressive and, once in the clear, he put his seven-furlong stamina to good use, staying on best of all to get up in the closing stages.

Ben Robinson, who partnered him to that Class 3 success, is in the saddle again and, despite arriving in winning form following his recent Chester win, Ramiro is still only two pounds higher for that success.
His five career wins have all come with cut in the ground (three on heavy), so he has a full set of suitable conditions today, as well as arriving in winning form and still on a mark that is four pounds below that which he had at the start of last season.
The faster they go, the better his chance will be to prove his stamina, so the fact that the confirmed front-runner, Iris Dancer, is in the field is a major plus and she is drawn right on the near-side edge of the field in stall 12, so connections of Ramiro will be pleased with stall 8.
Suggested bet: Ramiro in the 15:55 at Ayr

Looking elsewhere, there is little doubt that Admiral D is the right favourite for this Class 4 sprint following his 3rd of 25 in the Class 2 Ayr Silver Cup here three weeks or so ago.
That run bodes well for his chances in this higher-tier Class 4 because he runs off an unchanged mark, albeit lacking a back catalogue of form on soft or heavy ground, with his only worthwhile piece of form on ground worse than yielding being his maiden win at Listowel when he was still trained in Ireland as a two-year-old.
Still to win for Richard Fahey and without a success since this month two years ago, he has admittedly been regularly contesting higher-graded handicaps than this one, so he has been given every chance to go back to winning ways.
Next best bet: Admiral D in the 15:55 at Ayr
