Ascot each-way tip: Bluestocking can bounce back, Running Lion ready to pounce

The third race on Ascot’s marquee racecard sees the females of the species take centre stage in what promises to be a high-quality contest over a challenging mile and a half.

14:25 - British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (1 mile 4 furlongs)

This is another real opportunity for Frankie Dettori to sign off his UK career in style, but it won’t be aboard last year’s winner, Emiliy Upjohn, who gave the Italian jockey his third success in his last seven attempts.

Instead, Frankie takes the reins of strongly-fancied Free Wind, and if the betting market has things right he is likely to have Ryan Moore and William Buick for company as they ride the equally well-supported Jackie Oh and Time Lock respectively.

Any or all of the above hold obviously serious claims, but anyone looking for bigger odds than theirs should be interested by Bluestocking, who have put in some strong performances in races against their own sex, and is the type to bounce back after failing to convert her odds-on price at Chester last time out.

Suggested bet: Bluestocking each-way in the 14:25 at Ascot

Tipstrr’s each-way aficionados have looked even deeper into the field, with French raider Rue Boissonade fancied to go well in the expected conditions, but the consensus appears to have fallen in favour of Running Lion, who has recently bounced back from a disappointing outing in France to be placed twice in strong company, most recently at Newmarket three weeks ago.

Newmarket was also the venue when Running Lion signalled her potential by completing a four-timer to land the Pretty Polly Stakes in May, a race that was run in similar soft going to that expected here.

Some of the principals are yet to prove themselves in more testing conditions, so the door might be open here for Oisin Murphy to steer Running Lion through, and coming from the in-form Gosden stable, he should arrive in the shape to do so.

Possible each-way punt: Running Lion each-way in the 14:25 at Ascot
