Aintree each-way tip: Kyntara good value to build on Cheltenham near miss

The final Grade 1 race of the day sees eight runners line up for the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle which has been as likely to be won by the favourite as by a rank outsider in recent years.

16:40 - Cavani Sartorial Menswear Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (3 miles 149 yards)

At first glance the morning withdrawal of early favourite Readin Tommy Wrong appears to have paved the way for a two-horse race between the remaining market leaders The Jukebox Man ( just edged out of a memorable win in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham), and unbeaten Shanagh Bob (not seen since two wins before Christmas after being pulled from Cheltenham).

They both hold serious claims, of course, but if Cheltenham form is being used as a barometer for winning potential here, then arguably better value at much tastier odds can be found with Mel Rowley’s progressive course-distance winner Kyntara.

Suggested bet: Kyntara each-way in the 16:40 at Aintree

This likeable eight-year-old has only missed the frame once in a dozen career outings, mixing up three wins with no fewer than seven runner-up spots.

His most recent success came over this course and distance before Christmas, since when two second places at Warwick and Newbury saw him miss out by a combined distance of just 2½ lengths

It was similar story when he was last seen at the Cheltenham Festival, when he looked like landing a 16/1 surprise win in the Pertemps Final, only to be reeled in over the last 50 yards by Paul Nicholls-trained Monmiral and lose by just over a length.

Charlie Deutsch rode him perfectly around Prestbury Park, and although Kyntara might lack the raw talent of some of his rivals here, not many will match his willingness and effort, which could prove invaluable in a stamina test such as this.
