Closed last campaign with a fourth over 5½f at this track, beaten 1.5 lengths. Trialling well leading into this. Likely to be in the finish. MELANITE (6) made a strong late bid but just failed to pick up the winner when when resuming as favourite last start over 5f at Hawkesbury. Sure to derive great benefit from that run. Steps up a level but he is capable of running another bold race. HILLIER (13) is back after a break of four-and-a-half months. At the last run before the layoff he finished ninth over 6f in the G3 Black Opal Stakes at Canberra. Looks ready to run following a minor placing in a recent Randwick trial. Rates highly on best form and a bright return wouldn't surprise.
