WAR MACHINE (1) returns from a layoff of 12 weeks. Scored over 6f at Flemington at the start of last prep. Boasts a when resuming record of two wins and three placings from five starts. Capable of playing a major role. HEDGED (4) scored two runs back then was well in commission last time but could only manage to finish tenth over the same trip in the G3 Standish Handicap at Flemington after he was prominent at the bend. It doesn't get any easier but on his best form he is right in contention. NADAL (5) was doing his best work late last start to get up for second over 6f in the LR Christmas Stakes at Sandown-Lakeside. Stiffer assignment here but looks up to the task. VEIGHT (2) returns from a lay-off of eight months. Was safely held at the only appearance last prep when 13th over 6f in the G1 Doomben 10,000. One of the main chances with the blinkers coming off.
