RUSSIAN SUB (3) strode forward early from his wide draw over 6f at this track when fresh from a lay-off last time, leading for much of the way before being claimed in the straight to finish second, beaten a neck. Well-placed and will take catching. BOOMING LAD (6) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break, the latest when tenth, beaten 6 lengths, over 5f at Sunshine Coast after he travelled towards the rear of the field. Cherry-ripe now and looks the main danger. SOUTH SEA (9) accounted for a maiden field over 6f at Doomben last start when fresh from a break. Is lightly raced and has plenty of scope for improvement. Boris Thornton was in the saddle on that occasion and retains the ride. One of the likely contenders despite the step up in grade. BRASCO (2) resumed three weeks ago over 6f at Doomben and was only beaten 1.75 lengths into seventh. Fitter so can figure in the finish.
