RIVER FERN (5) is a three-start maiden who was close to a win before a four months break, finishing off with a minor placing at this track. First try at this longer trip. Can launch this campaign in positive style. KHICHDI (1) resumes from a lay-off of nine months and is having his first outing under new trainer Gavin Smith. Finished eighth at Vaal over 6f at the opening run last time in work. Sound top-three prospects. CAPTAIN CLEVER (2) returned from a lay-off five-and-a-half weeks ago when he was prominent at the corner before being beaten 5 lengths into sixth over 6f at Greyville All Weather.
