JOHNNY PODRES (5) improved sharply on his seventh two starts back at Gulfstream Park (Turf) with a win as favourite over 5½f at Gulfstream Park (Synthetic) five-and-a-half weeks ago, getting home by 2.25 lengths after being in the firing line on the bend. Going up a level this time but he can go back-to-back. BAD BEAT BRIAN (8) has been out of the winner's list for a long time, last start finishing fourth at Churchill Downs (Turf) over 5½f after being in the firing line on the bend. Has started three times at this course and distance and is yet to miss the placings. Tackling a more suitable race this time so he is set to turn things around. SURF CITY (2) turned in another moderate effort last start when 7 lengths from the winner in tenth over 5½f at Churchill Downs. Better than recent efforts suggest.
