Finished ninth when fresh from a lay-off two starts back at Hawkesbury then improved and scored over 1m at Canberra three weeks ago, getting home by 2 lengths when he produced a huge finish. Stepping up a level this time but on his best form he is right in contention. VERONA RUPES (4) was fresh from a break of four months last start when beaten 2 lengths into third over 7f at Pakenham. Yet to miss the frame over this longer journey. Can win this without surprising. KHABALOV (6) scored at his most recent appearance, getting home by 1.5 lengths over 1m at Wangaratta as favourite. That continued the good form this campaign, with two wins from six outings. Among the leading players again. STAR BUYER (1) produced a better run last start, beaten one length into fifth over 1m1f at Sandown-Hillside. Well placed to make amends.
