Uttoxeter each-way racing tip: Better ground can bring the best out of Pym

Jumping action at Fakenham

Tipstrr pundit Richard Hutchinson has cast his expert eye for each-way value to Saturday’s National Hunt meeting at Uttoxeter, where he expects Pym to rekindle former glories on his preferred ground.

18:35 Uttoxeter: Optimum Pay Group Handicap Chase (3 miles)

When he was with Nicky Henderson, Pym quickly developed into a smart performer, winning five times and reached a peak of 152 over chases.

He loves top of the ground, so new connections ran him four times in the summer of 2021. Three of these runs were over hurdles, where his mark was almost a stone lower, and his best run was second off 137 at today's Uttoxeter track.

He suffered an injury and was off for 538 days, changing ownership and returning to action for Nigel Twiston-Davies in March this year.

He ran pretty well over hurdles on unsuitable soft ground, where he led for a long way before getting tired and fading. He was only beaten 19 lengths off 129 (postmarking 111), and it was a promising first run back.
Suggested bet: Pym each-way in the 18:35 at Uttoxeter

He now makes his second start 56 days later and goes back chasing off a lovely-looking mark of 129 on his ideal good ground over his optimum three-mile trip.

Sam Twiston-Davies now takes the ride, at a time when a tongue tie and cheekpiece combination is applied for the very first time.

The big risk is the possibility of Pym bouncing which can happen the second run after a long long layoff, but at current odds of 18/1, that risk is worth an each-punt punt.
