Byblos is a highly promising Frankel colt who caught the eye on his career debut over a shorter seven-furlong trip at Kempton 29 days ago.
Starting the race off towards the rear of the field, this John and Thady Gosden-trained two-year-old looked to be running green before settling into his stride by the halfway point.
He was given a slight reminder by jockey, Kieran Shoemark, to which he responded very well, immediately making steady eye-catching progress and improving further inside the final furlong to finish a decent fourth in the end.
He is a strongly built type for a two-year-old, and having surely learned a good amount from that first run, he steps up in trip to full mile, which is a very good move by connections, considering his classy pedigree and strong finish on debut.
Any product from the Gosden stable has to be taken seriously, and even more so given that Byblos is the only horse they are sending to the Tyneside track, and is also Shoemark’s only booking of the day.
