Sunday's Plumpton racing tips: Merrijig tough to beat

Planet Sport tipsters make a very late summer weekend trip to Plumpton for a bit of jumps action on Sunday, September 18.

Family Day at the East Sussex track and that means children are free when accompanied by an adult. There's a fun fair, petting farm, magician, face painter, horse hoppers and inflatables. That should keep the kids busy while you study our tips.
You can get all the latest racecards and results from Plumpton by using the Planet Sport live centre, but first here's a quick list of our tips with some more detail on our highlighted horses below.

Selections:

13:50 (Plumpton) Lusaka
14:20 (Plumpton) Right Destination
14:50 (Plumpton) Starspangledjama

15:20 (Plumpton) Thibault

15:50 (Plumpton) Barest Of Margins
16:20 (Plumpton) Cobbs Corner

16:50 (Plumpton) Merrijig

15:20 (Plumpton) Thibault

Thibault is fancied to make a successful return to the jumping game in the Friends & Family Remembering Norman Sharpe Handicap Hurdle.
The nine-year-old is 6lb higher in the weights than when winning by seven lengths at this venue in May, since when he has run twice on the Flat.
He floundered in the mud on his most recent appearance at Epsom, but is better judged on his previous runner-up finish at the home of the Derby.
Those efforts mean he will not lack for fitness as he reverts to hurdling and a bold bid looks assured.

16:50 (Plumpton) Merrijig

Merrijig could be the answer to the concluding Thank You Your Majesty Open National Hunt Flat Race.
A relatively rare National Hunt runner for Newmarket handler John Berry, the Schiaparelli gelding was beaten just a neck on his Newton Abbot debut in July by dual point-to-point winner The Galahad Kid.
The latter has won again, as has the third-placed Dame De Fortune, so the form looks watertight and normal progress should make Merrijig a tough nut to crack.
