Thursday free racing tip: Howth ticks all the right boxes in Southwell stayers’ handicap

The second of our free racing tips comes from the penultimate race on Southwell’s Thursday evening card, in which nine proven stayers should provide an enthralling contest over 14 furlongs.

If the bookies have done their job, then the main challenge for early favourite Cool Party should come from Galactic Charm and Across Earth, but lurking just beneath the three market leaders, the threat of Howth should not be dismissed lightly.
Michael Appleby’s five-year-old displayed fair form when last seen 24 days ago at Kempton, where he finished a respectable fourth of eight over two miles.
He drops two furlongs in trip here, which means he is back down to his last winning distance, which came six outings ago at Wolverhampton in March this year.
Luke Morris teams up with Howth for the first time since steering Howth to that Wolverhampton victory, and considering Howth's racing style and strong finish, this handicap should play to his strengths, and allow Morris to produce him late to reel in any early pace-setters.
