Savvy Victory back in winners' circle at Newcastle
Savvy Victory saw off the challenge of Dark Moon Rising to claim the BetUK: It’s Where The UK Bets Handicap by a short head at Newcastle.
The Sean Woods-trained five-year-old was most recently seen finishing fourth in the Listed Churchill Stakes at Gosforth Park last month.
“I’m absolutely delighted, it was a handicap but he ran very well in the Listed race the time before and the first two are running in Hong Kong in two days’ time in a Group One,” said Woods of the 10/1 winner.
“He’s a proper horse, he’s rated 104 and he deserved to win that race.
“Everything went to plan and we were delighted to see him get his head in front.
“He’s come to the right side of the track, Sean’s (Levey) ridden him really well. We were very confident going into the race and we’re very happy coming out of it.”
The All-Weather Championships could now be on the cards for Savvy Victory, with Woods adding: “We’ll probably try to get him qualified for the championship, so whether he has a break now and comes back in early spring or goes for the Listed race at Lingfield (Quebec Stakes) and then has a break, I’ve no idea – we’ll see how he is when we get him home.”
