Saturday’s Ayr racing tips: Major Dundee to take command in the Scottish Grand National

Up to Ayr on Scottish Grand National day and Planet Sport tipster Pete Farries is backing a King and a Major in the big one.

Planet Sport's Live Race Centre has all the up-to-the-second news on racing at Ayr.

Here's a quick list of Pete's three main picks aiming to nail some winners on Scottish Grand National day.
Lord Accord (13.50 Ayr)
Major Dundee (15.35 Ayr)
Donna's Double (16.45 Ayr)
Plus we've got a written rundown of Pete three main picks from Ayr.

15.35 Ayr - Major Dundee

Pete reckons Major Dundee can be a major player in the four mile marathon Coral Scottish Grand National Handicap Chase in the colours of the Exors of the late Trevor Hemmings.

In very decent form with two wins and a second place in his last three runs, Major Dundee won a three miles chase at Bangor On Dee last December and looks to have plenty of stamina.

Tom Cannon gets the leg up on the Alan King seven-year-old and here are a couple of reasons why Pete thinks Major Dundee can take the cake in the big one.

"Was very very good at Fakenham a couple of runs back, backed that up with a really strong performance at Bangor, then last time on Greatwood Gold Cup day, ran really well, finished second at Newbury."
"There is so much about this horse I like, novices tend to do well in this race, including for Alan King back in 2013 of course. I think Major Dundee has a great chance."

16.45 Ayr - Donna's Double

Home advantage could play into the hands of Scottish trainer Sandy Thomson says Pete and he fancies Donna's Double to do the business in the Trump Turnberry "Hands & Heels" Finale Handicap Hurdle.

The race for amateur and conditional jockeys sees young Dylan Johnston take off three pounds and Donna's Double can point to a solid win at Newcastle in February.
Here's a couple of reasons why Pete is singling out Donna's Double.
"Now just the four career runs so far, all four of them have come at Newcastle so makes the trip from the North East. I think this horse has got a great chance, at quite a chunky price."
"Those four runs at Newcastle have garnered a couple of wins, was second last time around beaten only by a superb performance from Hidden Heroics who went on to win by two lengths and change. In that race there was so much to like about this horse."

13.50 Ayr - Lord Accord

Pete reckons Lord Accord can get a win on the board for Neil Mullholland in the CPMS Novices' Champion Handicap Chase.

With three wins in the last five races, Lord Accord is clearly a capable animal who probably didn't show his running when third last time out at Doncaster.
Richard Patrick takes the reins at Ayr and here is a snippet of why Pete says Lord Accord is a value bet.
"Now didn't have a great time out at Doncaster last time, finished back of the pack but I don't think the ground or particularly the race suited the horse on that occasion. Some great form at Uttoxeter last year, was second here at Ayr around this time last year."
"This is a horse that I think has got plenty going for it, yes I know the each-way value will be there but I think that Lord Accord can just go on to get the win."
