Commonwealth Cup racing tip: Lezoo can continue Frankie Dettori's Royal Ascot finale

Frankie Dettori celebrates winning the Gold Cup by jumping off Courage Mon Ami

Thursday saw our friends at Tipstrr pick out Desert Hero (18/1) and Warm Heart (13/2) for us, so we’re hoping for more of the same on Friday, as they jump aboard Frankie Dettori's Royal Ascot express.

15:05 Commonwealth Cup (Group1) (6 furlongs)

Of the Commonwealth Cup's eight previous winners, only Dettori has ridden more than one, while last year it was French jockey Christophe Soumillon who piloted Perfect Power clear of 19 rivals with plenty in hand.

This year Ryan Moore is expected to do the same aboard the short-priced favourite Little Big Bear, whose closest challenger (in the betting, at least) is Sakheer, with the remaining 11 runners at an unfancied 7/1+ at the time of writing.

An even-money favourite might appeal to high-end bettors, but for the average punter better value might be found in studying the each-way options, especially in light of how many of this year's races have unfolded.

Where better to start than Dettori, who will be looking to postmark Thursday's fairytale Gold Cup victory with further success before he bids farewell to Royal Ascot on Saturday.

He lines up on board Ralph Beckett's Lezoo, whose only defeat in five outings as a two-year-old was when finishing half a length behind Mawj in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket last July.

Lezoo ended up much further behind the same winner of this year's 1000 Guineas, when the extra two furlongs on unsuitably soft ground proved a step too far, so the faster going at Ascot over her preferred six-furlong trip should put her back in her comfort zone.

Suggested bet: Lezoo each-way in the 15:05 at Royal Ascot

For anyone looking for a bigger price, then Shouldvebeenaring has been well-supported within the Tipstrr camp and certainly ticks enough boxes to suggest that he could feature among the frame finishers here.

His 11 runs over the last 12 months have included four wins, including the King Charles II Stakes in listed company at Newmarket's Guineas meeting in May.
Shouldvebeenaring has had several different jockeys in his saddle in that period, but significantly it was today's rider, Sean Levey, who partnered him to each of those four successes.

Levey was also on board for his last-time out near miss 27 days ago, when they finished just over a length behind today's favourite Little Big Bear, but notably eight lengths clear of third-placed Bradsell, who went on to rubberstamp that form by winning the King's Stand Stakes here on Tuesday.

Popular each-way punt: Shouldvebeenaring each-way in the 15:05 at Royal Ascot
