Planet Sport Bet ambassador Harry Cobden previews his fives rides for the first day of action at Ayr’s Scottish Grand National meeting on Friday, April 19.
13:20 (Ayr) Jackpot D’Athou
It’s a busy weekend up at Ayr for me and the Paul Nicholls team, with both the jockeys’ and trainers’ titles on the line.
I start off aboard Jackpot D’Athou who’s a really nice horse. I was pleased with him last time when he dug deep to beat a useful horse in Livin On Luco.
I think he’ll appreciate the better ground and he’s a great ride to kickstart the meeting.
14:20 (Ayr) Herakles Westwood
Next up is Herakles Westwood. He’s a nice spare ride to pick up, but the handicapper has probably got a grip of him.
However, Warren Greatrex wouldn’t be taking him up there for nothing, so he’s one to keep an eye out for.
14:50 Outlaw Peter
Outlaw Peter has been fantastic this season. He’s had plenty of racing, but he’s turned up every time. I thought he did very well to win at Kempton last time out in particular.
He’s probably not well-treated at the weights but he’s rock-solid. I could see him running a big race again.
15:20 Hugos New Horse
I then ride Hugos New Horse, who I rode to victory at this meeting last year. I could see him running better than his price, despite disappointing on his last run.
This will be his second start since his wind-op and I’m sure there’s lots of improvement to come with him. He’s back in better form at home and we’re hoping for a good run.
15:55 Beau Balko
I’m pleased that my next mount, Beau Balko, is going back left-handed. He’s got a good deal of smart form to his name, will appreciate the track and the likely fast-run race.
I think he’ll have a squeak, so don’t rule him out.
