Put your Royal Ascot picnics to one side because Hugo Palmer has a great big Flaming Rib to whet your appetite.

15.05 Royal Ascot - Flaming Rib

Pete is backing Flaming Rib from Michael Owen's stables to score in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup.

Hugo Palmer trains the Ribchester colt now, of course, and he put none other than the Queen's King's Lynn to the sword at Chester on his penultimate run.
James Doyle gets the leg up and here are a few reasons why Pete thinks you should take a bite out of Flaming Rib.
"Now I backed this horse for the Sandy Lane last time around, lost out but only lost out very narrowly indeed. Won at Chester of course before that in the Secret Garden Stakes, really good performance there and had a great Autumn as well last year."
"This is a great horse for Hugo Palmer and this is going to be my star pick."

16.20 Royal Ascot - Mangoustine

There's no way Pete is dismissing Mangoustine's win in the French 1000 Guineas.
She beat the English 1000 Guineas winner Cachet at ParisLongchamp and won in game fashion.

Gerald Mosse gets the ride for the French raider and here is a snippet of why we should say oui to Mangoustine in the Coronation Stakes.

"This horse was superb in the French 1000 Guineas at ParisLongchamp last time around. Just the one blot on the copybook of late and even then that was a third. This is a horse with great great quality and I think a really good chance of getting a win here."
"French trainers have done well in this race in recent years, Francis-Henri Graffard winning it and Jean-Claude Rouget doing it back-to-back as well a few years ago too."

17.35 Royal Ascot - Changingoftheguard

Pete was taken with Changingoftheguard's fifth in the Epsom Derby recently.

Aidan O'Brien's colt did well in the circumstances to finish so high in a 17 runner field and could have finished fourth if not pipped by Masekela at the death.

Likely to start a short-priced favourite, here's why Pete thinks that Changingoftheguard is armed for the win in the King Edward VII Stakes.

"Won of course the Chester Vase a little while ago. Now in the Derby at Epsom last time, really got out there quick, really set the pace but then faded away to finish fifth. Desert Crown of course winning that one and there is no shame at the moment losing to Desert Crown."
"Yes, this horse is a likely favourite but I'm going to go with Changingoftheguard as my third and final selection of the day."
