Friday racing tips for Chepstow, Catterick, Lingfield and Newcastle

With the weather looking like it is going to play ball this weekend, Planet Sport's tipsters dive into Friday's racing with a raft of top selections.

Let's start with a bit of info on our highlighted horses for Friday's action. You can find the full list of selections for every race across all the courses at the bottom of the page.

Don't forget to check out the racecards, results and odds in the Planet Sport racing live centre.

13:30 (Chepstow) Doyen Star

Doyen Star is another course-and-distance winner worth following in the Cazoo EBF Novices' Hurdle.
A £120,000 purchase after winning his sole start in the Irish point-to-point field, the five-year-old gave his new connections an immediate return on their investment when making a successful start to his career under Rules at Chepstow in November.
While the form does not amount to much, with the second and third both well beaten since, Doyen Star could do no more than win handsomely, despite showing signs of greenness when push came to shove.
He can only improve on that effort and looks capable of defying the mandatory penalty.

15:00 (Chepstow) Monbeg Genius

Monbeg Genius looks poised to complete his hat-trick in the Follow Vickers.Bet On Facebook Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

Twice a winner over hurdles last season, Jonjo O'Neill's charge was disappointing on his debut over fences at Aintree in early November - trailing home last of four runners.
That was the seven-year-old's seasonal reappearance and first start since undergoing wind surgery, though, and he has improved significantly since to register back-to-back wins.
Monbeg Genius comfortably defied top-weight to open his chasing account at Newcastle and a 5lb hike was nowhere near enough to stop him following up over this course and distance early in the new year.
He clearly handles the track and soft ground and stays the near three-mile trip well, so a further 5lb rise does not look insurmountable for a horse on a steep upward curve.

13:40 (Catterick) Ballygeary

Brian Hughes rarely leaves Catterick without a winner and should add to his tally at the North Yorkshire venue aboard Ballygeary in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Maiden Hurdle.
The point-to-point runner-up was again second best on his Rules debut in a Sedgefield bumper three weeks ago, but was only beaten three lengths by Raffles Wonder and was 12 clear of the remainder.
Given his background, he should be seen to even better effect now sent over obstacles and a longer trip and this looks a good opportunity for him to make a winning start.

14:40 (Catterick) Pretending

Pretending has to be of interest for Lucy Wadham and Bryony Frost in the Andrew Dowson 50th Birthday Fillies' Juvenile Hurdle.
A winner and placed on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott, the daughter of Make Believe was given her introduction to to the jumping game at Doncaster over the Christmas period and emerged with plenty of credit in finishing third.
The form looks strong, with the winner Arclight and the runner-up Greyval finishing first and second in a Listed race back at Doncaster last week, albeit the other way round.
Pretending was admittedly 13 lengths behind that pair, but looks to have far less on her plate at Catterick and could dominate from the front.

13:50 (Lingfield) Chronograph

Chronograph can make it third time lucky for Hugo Palmer in the It's Time To Turn To talkSPORT Restricted Maiden Stakes at Lingfield.
Third and second in two starts at Wolverhampton since the turn of the year, three-year-old is likely no star, but has shown enough to suggest a race like this is within his compass.

16:30 (Newcatle) Golden Vintage

All-weather fare also comes from Newcastle, where PJ McDonald could be in for a profitable evening.
The leading jockey's first ride on the card is Golden Vintage, who won well at Gosforth Park little under a fortnight ago and can defy a 5lb penalty in the Top Odds Every Day With Betuk Handicap.
McDonald will also have high hopes for Mint Edition, who took his game to a new level when stepped up to a mile for the first time here on his latest outing and a 5lb rise could prove lenient.
