Epsom Oaks News: O'Brien putting Epsom date in Tuesday's diary

Aidan O'Brien has targeted the Cazoo Epsom Oaks for Tuesday and was rewarded with a fine second in the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh behind Dermot Weld's Homeless Songs.

Aidan O'Brien took a lot from his Tuesday's fine second behind a impressively rapid Homeless Songs in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas.

A reasonable third in the QIPCO 1000 Guineas at Newmarket saw the three-year-old Galileo filly go to the Curragh as 11/4 favourite for the Irish version.

Tuesday looked every inch a potential winner over the mile until Dermot Weld's Homeless Songs loomed on the outside and quickened away for an eye-catching victory.

Yet, Tuesday rallied to clinch second among a group including fellow Ballydoyle inmate Concert Hall and Henry De Bromhead's Star Girls Aaalmal.

Tuesday can be backed at 6/1 for the fillies' Classic at Epsom on June 3 behind the John and Thady Gosden favourites Nashwa (5/1) and Emily Upjohn who is even money for the females' event on the Downs.

"Tuesday ran a good race and came up against a very good filly on the day. I'd imagine if everything goes well she will head to Epsom," O'Brien said.
Meanwhile, High Definition, one time Epsom Derby favourite, who many have written off as an expensive flop, pleased O'Brien with a strong showing in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in which he could have easily won.

Four-year-old Galileo colt High Definition made all the running over one mile, two and a half furlongs at the Curragh and looked to be heading for victory but was somewhat cruelly caught on the line by William Haggas' Alenquer, who prevailed by a neck.

O'Brien said: "High Definition ran a great race and it was obviously his best run.
"We were delighted with him and he won't mind going up in distance."

The Epsom Oaks is the historic Classic for three-year-old fillies which takes place at Epsom racecourse on Friday, June 3. The Group 1 race is held over a mile on the Epsom Downs with a big first prize of £297,728 for the winner.

Other entries to the Premier fillies' test include Charlie Appleby's Frankel filly With The Moonlight, Joseph Patrick O'Brien's Naas scorer Tranquil Lady and also stablemate Above The Curve, who took a Leopardstown maiden.

James Ferguson's Mise En Scene, a Goodwood Group 3 winner may also line up, alongside Ralph Beckett's Moon De Vega.
