Charlie Appleby's Epsom Derby hero Adayar has suffered a setback and will be sent straight to Ascot rather than contesting the Coronation Cup at Epsom.

Charlie Appleby's Epsom Derby winner Adayar has suffered a slight setback and will miss the Coronation Cup to be targeted at the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Last year's Derby champion Adayar was due back on the track for the first time since coming fifth in the Champion Stakes at Ascot last October.

The Frankel colt beat Mojo Star by four and half lengths in the Derby last year and followed up in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes at Ascot.

However, Godolphin handler Appleby says that Adayar has had a minor setback and will now head to the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot on Wednesday, June 15.

He told www.godolphin.com: "Adayar, who was an intended runner (at Epsom), met with a minor setback in the respect that he was coughing for a few days so I just eased off him for a week.
"In doing so, he did very well that week so I think we're probably going to be giving the Coronation Cup a miss as just fitness-wise I won't quite have him there ready in time.
"Adayar is most likely to be heading towards the Prince of Wales's Stakes for the first start of his four-year-old career."
There is better news however on fellow Godolphin charge Manobo who will take his chances in the Coronation Cup.

The Sea The Stars colt has progressed well from a Newbury maiden win in May, moving to the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay at ParisLongchamp, which he won on Arc weekend.

Manobo then went to the UAE, winning the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy before finishing second at Meydan in the Dubai Gold Cup and receiving his first defeat of his career.
Appleby is keen to see what Manobo can do with a drop back in trip to 12 furlongs.
He added: "Manobo, who was last seen finishing second in the Dubai Gold Cup, we've always mooted that we wanted to drop him back to a mile and a half. His preparation has gone very well towards the Coronation.
"He worked this morning, (I'm) very pleased with him, so he will be an intended runner for the Coronation."
