Tiger Roll headlines National entries – but connections sound cautious note

It will be emotional when legendary jumps horse Tiger Roll has his last ever race in the Glenfarclas Chase on March 16 at Cheltenham. The 12-year-old will retire immediately after.

All good things come to an end and Gigginstown House Stud's Eddie O'Leary has confirmed that Tiger Roll's last race will come in the Glenfarclass Cross-Country Chase at Cheltenham on March 16.

The two-times Grand National winner for Gordon Elliott was withdrawn from the Aintree spectacle in favour of a swan song at Cheltenham in the cross-country test he has won a record three times.

Tiger Roll first took the Glenfarclas Chase over three miles and six furlongs in 2018 over the varied course at Prestbury Park and then went on to win it again in 2018 and 2021.

On Tiger Roll's final racecourse appearance O'Leary said "Touch wood all is good and I hope there isn't too much rain for him. He needs better type of ground to shine," said O'Leary of the dual Grand National hero.

"That is definitely his last race. He'll retire immediately after it.
"Cheltenham is a very fitting place to retire him as he's a five-time winner there."

Tiger Roll is a general 13/8 chance to take a fourth Glenfarclas Chase on the eve of his retirement.

Meanwhile, connections of a fellow Gigginstown runner are undecided on whether to send the talented Conflated to either the Ryanair Chase or the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup.

"No decision has been made yet. We're 50-50 between the races. We'll wait to see what the ground is and see what everyone else is doing" said O'Leary.
