Jamel Herring and Shakur Stevenson collide in an all-American clash for the WBO junior lightweight championship this weekend.

It's an intriguing clash that has gone under the radar because of the recent weekends - the first being Anthony Joshua's heavyweight clash against Oleksandr Usyk and the second being Tyson Fury's victory over Deontay Wilder two weeks later.

When: October 23

Where: State Farm Arena, Atlanta, America

How to watch: ESPN / Sky Sports

It's a Top Rank promoted event under Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum in Atlanta. Herring is making the fourth defence of his title - having previously dispatched Carl Frampton earlier this year - and is undefeated since 2017.

Stevenson meanwhile is regarded as one of the fighters to watch out for this decade. Slick skills and compared to a young Floyd Mayweather, he has big shoes to fill but his upcoming fight against Herring can be the start of it.

The 24-year-old won the WBO world title version at featherweight and despite being linked to unification clashes against the likes of Emanuel Navarrete and Josh Warrington, he has decided to move up in weight.

Victory would see him become a two-division world champion and climb up the Pound for Pound rankings but defeat, and people will view him as a hype job.

For Herring - the huge underdog - to emerge victorious, he needs a similar game plan to when he fought Frampton. Being the aggressor in the opening five rounds is vital but more importantly, he needs to make the most of his advantages in the size and reach department.

If he cannot get Stevenson out there in the first half of the bout then it could prove to be a long, hard night for Herring. Due to the technical ability of Stevenson, I expect Herring to have moments of success early on but nothing too major.

As the fight goes on, Stevenson's ring IQ will tire out the former US Marines man and I expect youth to prevail. While he isn't known as the biggest puncher, there is a small chance of a stoppage late on.

The smart bet here though is Stevenson to win on points.
