San Antonio set for world title triple header with Jesse Rodriguez and Jessica McCaskill in action

Undefeated world super flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez and women's unified welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill will defend their belts in an event described as “one of the cards of the year”.

In a matter of a few short years, Jesse Rodriguez has gone from a highly-rated prospect to becoming a bona-fide boxing superstar.

The 22-year-old claimed the WBC super flyweight title last February against Carlos Cuadras despite stepping into the ring as a late replacement, with only five days' notice.

On that occasion, the American replaced Srisaket Sor Rungvisai who was forced to pull out following a non-Covid-19 related illness.

Rodriguez will now return to his hometown of San Antonio for the first time in four years as he battles the man he replaced to win the world title. This bout will main event what boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has described as potentially the best card of 2022.

While Rodriguez is unbeaten in his 15 fights as a professional, he faces a stern challenge in Rungvisai who is a highly experienced opponent with 50 wins from 56 pro bouts.

Rungvisai has a number of impressive names on his record, including two victories over Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez.

The WBA and IBF super-bantamweight championships will also be on the line as 2016 Olympic bronze medallist and defending title holder Murodjon Akhmadaliev battles 32-year-old American Ronny Rios.
The Uzbekistan boxer first claimed the titles with a split decision victory over Daniel Roman in just his eighth professional bout. He has since defended his belts against Ryosuke Iwasa and Jose Velasquez.
Rios, on the other hand, has bounced back strong from his 2018 defeat to Azat Hovhannisyan, and has since gone on to beat the likes of Diego De La Hoya, Hugo Berrio and most recently, Oscar Negrete.
The third world title fight will see unified welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill taken on Mexican challenger Alma Ibarra.
Since her defeat to Katie Taylor back in 2017, McCaskill has been unstoppable, going on to clean up the entire welterweight division.
Nevertheless, Ibarra will be looking to live up to her nickname of 'The Conqueror' as she prepares to steal the show in San Antonio.
