‘I would have slept you!’ – Devin Haney and Luke Campbell clash on social media

Haney and Campbell have butted heads on Twitter after the undefeated American beat Jorge Linares via UD last weekend…

Devin Haney and Luke Campbell have gone back on forth on social media after the Brit claimed that he could stop the undefeated American.

Haney returned to the ring on Saturday night against Jorge Linares in Las Vegas. The 22-year-old won via unanimous decision. The judges scored it 116-112, 116-112 and 115-113 in his favour.

He was in control for much of the fight but he was hurt by Linares late into the tenth round. He composed himself to see out the victory, though.

Haney and Ryan Garcia have exchanged words in the past. Garcia beat Campbell via TKO in January in Dallas, Texas.

The American was knocked down in the second round but he recovered to stop Campbell with a lethal body shot in the seventh round.

'King Ry' was due to fight Javier Fortuna next, but he has pulled out as a result of his ongoing battle with mental health.

On Tuesday, Haney took to Twitter to criticise Garcia:

"[Ryan] Garcia is the true definition of a coward... a few weeks ago he wants sympathy because he was having 'Mental Health issues' this week he talking sh*t about me... it's funny now he came out after [Javier] Fortuna found another opponent.

"If [Luke] Campbell dropped you what would have Linares have done to you and let's be real you never wanted to fight Linares you ducked him like you ducked me."

Campbell later responded as he insisted that the shot that floored Garcia would have "slept" Haney:

"Congrats on your win lad, but FYI, the shot I dropped Ryan [Garcia] with would have slept you, and [Jose] Linares is now 3 years past his best."

'The Dream' then claimed that Campbell has never won a big fight:

"Calm down Luke the fluke, you've never won a big fight in your life. Tell me one person that you beat?
"I respect Luke as being a warrior in the ring I would never take that away from him… but at the end of the day in any of his big fights he's never pulled off the victory."
Campbell then added: "Have had some big fights and winning the Olympics was a decent buzz, nothing like that feeling when a new email hits the inbox, though, eh? Enjoy the victory champ."
Haney finished the exchange by simply saying: "God bless."

Haney vs Campbell next?

'The Dream' has openly stated that he wants to fight Teofimo Lopez next. He defeated Vasyl Lomachenko via unanimous decision last October to become the new undisputed world lightweight champion.

Lopez returns to the ring this month as he faces George Kambosos Jr in Miami.

Lopez vs Haney is the money fight to make. But if that cannot be arranged yet, a bout between Haney and Campbell would be tasty in the meantime.

This would be another difficult test for Haney. It would help him build up more experience against a top-level boxer before he steps up to face the lightweight elite.

The Campbell fight would be the perfect opportunity for Haney to make his debut on British soil. In front of the Cool Hand's passionate fanbase, it could prove to be not just a great fight, but a great occasion as well...
