Chris Eubank Jr claims new generation of YouTubers are good for boxing

The former world title challenger has said YouTubers getting into boxing is "good for the sport".

Chris Eubank Jr believes boxing's YouTube generation are good for the sport, despite their critics.
The British middleweight is currently preparing for his grudge match against Liam Williams. Boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. and world class trainer Adam Booth will be the cornerman of Eubank and Williams, respectively.

The bout has been given the green light after Friday's announcement by the Welsh Government that indoor sports events can resume.

The domestic rivals were set to fight a week earlier, on Saturday January 29, but the British Boxing Board of Control suspended all boxing throughout the month to allow doctors to prioritise their work with NHS during the pandemic.

Eubank, speaking after being unveiled as 888Poker's global ambassador, believes the likes of Jake Paul are good for the sport.

Paul, who is believed to have earned £30m for his three fights in 2021 against Ben Askren and two dates with Tyron Woodley, recently came under fire from former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew.

Bellew hit out at Paul, 24, after he claimed he was "carrying" the sport.
"First of all, I've got no hate or malice towards Jake Paul, crack on, do what you're doing, it's great.
"But in no way shape or form can you claim to carry my sport you absolute f***ing muppet, he hasn't even fought a boxer yet.

"So how can you claim to be carrying my sport when you haven't fought someone who comes from my sport? It's unbelievable," Bellew told the DAZN Boxing show.

But Eubank Jnr has hailed the influence of YouTube fighters like Paul.

"I have seen all of the YouTube boxing I have been involved in and helped train KSI for his first fight against Logan Paul," Eubank Jr said, via the Daily Mirror.

"I have been part of the Roy Jones vs Mike Tyson fight which had YouTubers fighting on there. They seem to create this new niche in the sport where they are coming into the ring with limited fights and making millions of dollars.
"You know a lot of people are upset about that, me as a fighter I have had to work extremely hard to get to the position I am in but I don't look at these guys and think 'that's not fair' or be jealous and resentful of them.

YouTuber's increasing boxers pay days

"Because at the end of the day they are having to get into the ring and fight no doubt about that, having to risk their health and reputations. Boxing is the entertainment business, if you are not excited to watch if you don't have a following.
"It doesn't matter how good you are, you won't get the interest. These guys have a following and they are choosing to use it to build big fights and that in turn brings a whole new audience to the real fighters.
"A lot of the real fighters on these shows are now getting paid more to be on these cards so I have nothing really to go on with that I think is good for the sport."
