Gervonta Tank’ Davis is one of the biggest attractions in boxing. He has caused his fair share of controversy, but after beating Ryan Garcia, experts are keen to see who he fights next.

The 28-year-old is currently one of the best lightweights in the world after beating Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas in their much-anticipated 136lb catchweight clash in April 2023.

Davis is a renowned ticket seller and one of very few pay-per-view level fighters left in the sport.

Tank has held titles in multiple weight classes, including the IBF super featherweight, WBA (Super) super featherweight and WBA (Regular) super lightweight titles. He has been the WBA (regular) lightweight champion since 2019.

He has frightening punch power, with 27 of his 29 wins as an unbeaten professional coming via TKO/KO.

Victory over Ryan Garcia

Davis maintained his perfect professional record by handing Ryan Garcia his first defeat in their much-anticipated 136lb catchweight grudge fight in Las Vegas.

Davis, who has held world titles in three weight classes, dropped his fellow American in the second round at the T-Mobile Arena with a counter left hook having absorbed Garcia's power moments earlier.

The taller and rangier Garcia got back to his feet and was in the fight until being caught with a short, savage left to the ribs in the seventh, which saw the Californian's demeanour noticeably change.

He tried to shrug off the blow and even pawed out a jab but buckled to one knee, where he stayed as referee Thomas Taylor administered the 10-count before waving off the fight as Davis celebrated.

"I didn't think that body shot would end it, but I saw his facial expression and that's what made me take it to him," said Davis.

"It was a good shot, for sure. I thought he was going to get up, but I like to play mind games, so when he was looking at me, I was looking at him trying to tell him 'get up'. He just shook his head, 'no'."

Davis could now set his sights on the winner of Devin Haney-Vasyl Lomachenko, who clash for the former's WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight titles next month.

"I just couldn't recover," said former WBC interim lightweight champion Garcia (23-1, 19KOs).

"I couldn't breathe. I was going to get back up, but I just couldn't get up."

Gervonta Davis memorable fights

In November 2016, Davis challenged for his first major title as a pro as he battled the undefeated Jose Pedraza for his IBF super featherweight title.

Davis - who has been considered a protege of Floyd Mayweather Jr - followed in the legend's footsteps to control the fight before stopping Pedraza in the seventh round.

He carried on earning knockout victories in the years leading up to his clash with Leo Santa Cruz in October 2020. This was considered one of Davis' toughest tests to date as his opponent had previously held world titles in four separate weight divisions.

Santa Cruz's only defeat prior to this fight came against Carl Frampton in 2016. He was outworked by Davis before he was floored by his heavy-hitting rival during the sixth round and the bout was quickly called off.

Davis' recent win over Hector Garcia was his first bout since his split with Mayweather Jr, who had promoted him through the early stages of the American's career.

Tank has matured into an elite-level boxer, and he showed that against Garcia in January. He started slowly but grew into the fight and broke down his opponent before earning an impressive stoppage win over eight rounds.

How to watch Gervonta Davis

When Davis is not part of an event with two promotional teams, his bouts tend to be broadcast via Showtime in the United States and FITE in the United Kingdom.

Tank's controversies...

Davis was arrested on two separate occasions for alleged assault between 2017 and 2018.

His first alleged offence came as he was accused of punching childhood friend Anthony Wheeler, who was later diagnosed with a concussion. The case went to court but the charges were later dropped. In 2018, he was arrested after being involved in a public fist fight.

In 2021, Davis was indicted on 14 counts of running a red light after leaving a party in Baltimore. He subsequently accepted a plea deal to admit his wrongdoing.

Davis has also been arrested on a couple of occasions on charges of battery and domestic violence. In 2020, he was jailed over an incident at a basketball game.

Then in December 2022, he was arrested after a woman called 911 and could be heard telling police "he's going to kill me". Davis was accused of striking her with a "closed hand type slap" but the woman eventually dropped her allegations.
