Lions @ Chiefs betting tips: Best prop bets for NFL week one opener

The 2023-24 NFL season begins on Thursday and the Planet Sport team has picked out a handful of tasty prop bets for Lions and Chiefs

Andy Reid and Dan Campbell will pit their wits against each other on Thursday evening as the Chiefs welcome the Lions.

Patrick Mahomes: Over 286.5 passing yards

Mahomes has struggled in game one, but this improved Lions team will likely be all about the offence, making an end-to-end game likely.

One thing to watch in this game is who exactly he prefers to target given that JuJu Smith-Schuster has traded to the Patriots, but he has options.

Travis Kelce may or may not play, while Kadarius Toney may not feature. Skyy Moore is another option but the Chiefs have proved you don’t need the best receivers if you have Mahomes.

As long as there are moving targets ahead of him, he will find passes and progress the ball down the field. Bet on Mahomes Over 286.5. passing yards

Skyy Moore to score a touchdown

Travis Kelce is undergoing some work on Thursday morning to see if he can suit up in game one against the Lions, if he doesn’t, Moore becomes more important.

Moore recorded just 22 receptions for 250 yards and didn’t score a touchdown last season, but the 22-year-old is ready to put his rookie season behind him and play more of a role.

Given the injuries the Chiefs are carrying into game one, it seems particularly likely he’ll see extended minutes here and could even be Mahomes' favoured option.

David Montgomery: Over 53.5 rushing yards

This line was at 50 and now it’s at 53.5. It’s a popular pick because we know he’ll be given lots of opportunity to carry the ball and the Chiefs could be without Chris Jones.

That would make finding gaps easier. David Montgomery has ran for over 800 yards in each of the past four seasons but he probably hasn’t featured in an offensive line this good before.

Jahmyr Gibbs is also a worthwhile consideration at 38.5 rushing yards for the Lions as he may only need one good play to eat away at the majority of that total.

Jared Goff: Under 258.5 passing yards

We think this game is going to be all about offence, but Goff averaged 261 yards per game last season, and this is a road game against an elite team.

The Chiefs surrendered 220 passing yards per game on average and we have to note that Goff hasn’t beaten this number in five of seven opening-day games.
