NFL news: Downtown Detroit will play host to the 2024 Draft

The Motor City will follow Las Vegas and Kansas City in staging the NFL Draft, one of the biggest events on the league calendar.

Detroit will host the 2024 NFL Draft as the league continue their new policy of holding one of their biggest annual events around the United States.

Previously held every year in New York City since the 1960s, the NFL Draft has recently been on a tour of the USA.

Starting in Chicago in 2015-16, the likes of Nashville, Cleveland and Dallas have staged the NFL Draft in recent years.

The 2022 NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas, and next year it will be staged in Kansas City, with Detroit then taking centre stage in 2024.
The Draft is now one of the biggest events in the entire NFL season, attracting a huge TV audience and sizeable crowds in person as fans of all 32 teams hope to see their side select their favourite stars from college.

"The draft has become a prominent offseason event across the country, and we are excited to work with the Lions and their partners to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to the Motor City," said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
"With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the City of Detroit the Lions' passionate fan base and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience."

Green Bay and Washington lost out in the battle to host the Draft, which is now a hotly-contested affair given the boost it gives to the area staging the event.

The three-day event in 2024 will include fan experiences and make use of some of the downtown Detroit areas that have been upgraded in recent years.
The Draft itself and will be held around Hart Plaza in the Motor City.
