It's the quarter-final stage at the Miami Open and Planet Sport has a selection of picks for the upcoming matches on both the men's and women's side of the draws.

Daniil Medvedev still holds a 6-4 head-to-head lead over Jannik Sinner, but the Italian's quartet of wins have come in their last four meetings, and they could be set to face off in the Miami Open semi-finals.

Sinner, will have to put away Czech upstart Tomas Machac to book his last four berth.

For Medvedev, it will be Nicolas Jarry who stands between him and a second successive last-four appearance in Miami.

ATP Miami Open: Tomas Machac vs Jannik Sinner

Tomas Machac is a little bit older than Jannik Sinner but hasn't progressed as far up the ATP pecking order.

Machac is yet to claim an ATP Tour title and will be out to reach his very first Masters semi-final.

Machac is already guaranteed to reach a new career-high ranking next week.

Sinner will have a lot more motivation to go through and potentially face a great rival.

ATP Miami Open: Nicolas Jarry vs Daniil Medvedev

Nicolas Jarry stands between Daniil Medvedev and taking another step on his quest to defend the Miami Open title.

The last time that they squared off, Medvedev eased to a straight sets win in the quarter-finals at Barcelona back in 2019.

That has been the only meeting between these players, with Medvedev enjoying the better form in the intervening period.

Jarry has the power to keep Medvedev honest, but he will struggle to get the better of the hard court star.

WTA Miami Open: Caroline Garcia vs Danielle Collins

Caroline Garcia is out to power her way back into the top 20 but will need a first win over Danielle Collins to aid her cause.

Collins has won all three meetings between the two women on the WTA Tour to date.

In her swansong season, Collins is also outperforming Garcia, in terms of match wins.

However, Garcia has beaten two Grand Slam champions in her Miami run and seems to have found another level to her game.

WTA Miami Open: Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Jessica Pegula

Jessica Pegula faces a big test in her last eight engagement against a Russian star enjoying a late bloom in Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Alexandrova's No 16 ranking is her career-best as the 29-year-old has started 2024 playing well.

Alexandrova claimed a big win over Elena Rybakina in Adelaide earlier this year and would love another top-ten scalp.

Pegula will be out to keep the home flag flying after compatriot Coco Gauff's exit.

WTA San Luis Open: Robin Montgomery vs Hailey Baptiste

Hailey Baptiste has beaten Robin Montgomery in all three of their head-to-head meetings and has bested her twice this year already.

Montgomery has fought hard in those meetings forcing a decisive set in both but being unable to make her resilience pay off.

Both players eased through the first round in San Luis in straight sets.

There is no reason to think that Baptiste won't secure another win over Montgomery.

WTA San Luis Open: Xiaodi You vs Laura Pigossi

Xiaodi You and Laura Pigossi cross paths for the second time in their careers.

It has been some time since Pigossi bested You in Bogota on clay.

The Chinese world No 224 had to come through qualifying to reach the main draw in San Luis and scored a big win over Alize Cornet in the first round.

However Pigossi has a fair number of wins under her belt this season and should do the business.

WTA San Luis Open: Erika Andreeva vs Lucrezia Stefanini

Erika Andreeva will face off with Lucrezia Stefanini for the first time in her career.

The Russian teenager holds the edge in terms of WTA Ranking as she recently entered the top 100.

Andreeva has a big upside even if she is a very raw talent and is being overshadowed by her younger sister.

Stefanini has slid away from the top 100 due to inconsistency and will be punished if she doesn't bring her best.

WTA San Luis Open: Tamara Zidansek vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Elisabetta Cocciaretto levelled up her rivalry with Tamara Zidansek in San Luis last season and they meet at the event again this year albeit in an earlier round.

Neither player was troubled in winning their first round match as Zidansek beat Germany's Jule Niemeier and Cocciaretto got the better of Romania's Irina Maria Bara.

Zidansek missed out on Miami due to a qualifying loss and snapped a three-match losing streak to open her campaign.

Cocciaretto lost in the first round in Miami to Naomi Osaka but has enjoyed good form at smaller tournaments in recent months.
